Mary Anne Warner’s love of painting began early as she watched her aunt work in her studio. By ten years old, Mary Anne began painting the still life. This remained her primary subject until graduate school. Her first experience with plien air painting came during a summer program in France. The landscape gave Mary Anne the venue to explore her interests in color, light, and texture. After graduate school, her landscapes focused on the equestrian life of horse racing and polo. These activities involved figures and horses in early morning and late afternoon light. It was this quality of light that created images filled with colors and textures. Her next series of work still dealt with the figure in landscape but they were in gardens. These public gardens were both locally in the Washington, DC area and overseas. During this time, Mary Anne completed a commission of 5 paintings of historic gardens for the Embassy Suites Hotel in Alexandria, VA.

Mary Anne's plein air work has focused on the Potomac River from Great Falls to Mt. Vernon. These small pastel sketches are used as reference for larger studio paintings in oil or pastel. In recent years, she and her husband photographer David Allison have been exploring the diverse landscape in central Pennsylvania.
